Healthy Homemade Granola

Have you ever made your own granola? It’s so easy! Plus, it’s so easy to make it fit your diet and allergy needs! You can make it vegan, gluten free, dairy free, low carb, nut free, etc. I love making my own granola!

While granola can definitely be a healthy food, so often the granola you buy at the grocery store is full of unhealthy fats and lots of sugar. I love to make my own granola since I know what’s in it! I recently whipped up a batch using Kartago date syrup. I love using date syrup as a sweetener since it is a very natural sweetener – it’s just dates! Date syrup can be used in the place of honey or maple syrup. It tastes just like dates, but syrup form! The only ingredient is dates. If you haven’t tried date syrup and want to, you can purchase it off Amazon. Or you can just use honey or maple syrup instead!

I’ll share below here my basic granola recipe. Try it out and feel free to experiment with your own ingredients!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rolled oats

  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts and seeds (I used chia seeds, pecans, sunflower seeds and slivered almonds)

  • 1/4 cup dried fruit (I used goji berries and raisins)

  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips (optional, or use more nuts or cacao nibs)

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut flakes (optional)

  • 2 TBS date syrup, I used Kartago date syrup (or use honey /maple syrup)

  • 2 TBS coconut oil, melted (or use olive oil)

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1/4 tsp Himalayan salt

Directions:

  1. Combine your oats, nuts/seeds, sweetener, cinnamon, oil, vanilla and salt in a medium sized bowl until well combined.

  2. Pour the mixture on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes.

  3. Stir the granola half-way through (at 12 minutes) and add the shredded coconut flakes.

  4. Remove the granola from the oven after 20-25 minutes and let it cool for 30-60 minutes.

  5. Add the dried fruit and chocolate chips and combine well.

  6. Store in an airtight container for several weeks! Enjoy!

I love this recipe since it’s gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free and vegan! I love to use my granola to top homemade yogurt or fresh smoothie bowls.

What are your favorite granola ingredients?
