Let’s talk carbs (bread specifically)! What are your thoughts on eating bread? Any brands you love? Read on to hear my thoughts (and my favorite brand!).
There’s a lot of controversy regarding eating bread in the health and wellness world. Some say it’s life, some say it’s death. Really, it’s that dramatic at times. I hope this post clears things up for you and helps you find a balanced approach to eating bread (because who doesn’t like bread, let’s be honest!).
What You Should Know 👇🏻
White Bread
White, processed, store bought bread is not great for you, as it often contains added sugars and simple carbs that spike your blood sugar. Processed white bread often lacks fiber as well, which provides nutritional value and helps to fill you up. It’s also pretty void of any nutrients. Eating a high intake of simple and refined carbohydrates like store bought white bread can lead to weight gain and a higher risk for diabetes, heart disease and other lifestyle-related chronic diseases. This doesn’t mean you need to avoid white bread all together, just be mindful about when you’re eating it.
Whole Grain Bread
100% whole grain bread, on the other hand, is a much better option. This type of bread is less processed and contains complex carbohydrates, which will provide you with long term energy and steady blood sugar. Whole grain bread often contains a good amount of fiber as well, which will help to fill you up and provide you with nutrients. Look for 100% whole grain bread with no added sugar or unrecognizable ingredients!
My Favorite Brand
My favorite brand of store bought bread (when I don’t have time to make my own) is Food For Life Baking. Their bread is whole grain and sprouted, making it easily digestible and highly nutritious. They also avoid using added sugars and artificial ingredients in their products, which is so hard to find. Their bread products include bagels, tortillas, breads, and more!
How I like to eat their bread:
2 slices of bread, toasted
1/2 avocado, mashed and salted
Tomatoes on top
Pepper to top
Some other delicious avocado toast toppings include balsamic glaze drizzle, fried eggs, feta cheese, and freshly squeezed lime juice.
