5-Ingredient Double Chocolate Power Balls

IMG_0889.JPG

These 5-ingredient double chocolate power balls are the perfect easy breakfast, snack or dessert option! Sweetened only with bananas, they’re a perfect sugar free treat. You can add protein powder to give them a protein boost and chia seeds for some extra healthy fats and fiber. You have to save this recipe and try it out!

Power balls are a lifesaver. They work great for breakfast on the go, pre-workout fuel, post workout snacking, or late night sweet tooth cravings. These power balls are made with only simple ingredients — oats, bananas, nut butter, cocoa powder and chocolate chips. I always add protein powder and chia seeds to my power balls, but that’s totally optional (but highly recommended)! Here’s the recipe so you can try it out.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups rolled/old fashioned oats

  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed

  • 1/4 cup + 2 TBS nut butter of choice

  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder

  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips (I use Lily’s Sweets)

Optional Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup protein powder of choice (recommended — vanilla, chocolate or unflavored works great)

  • 1/4 cup chia seeds (recommended)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (if your nut butter is unsalted use 1/2 tsp)

Directions:

  1. Mash bananas in a medium sized bowl until smooth. Add nut butter and mix until smooth and creamy.

  2. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Add more nut butter if the consistency is too dry and more cocoa powder or protein powder if your mixture is too wet.

  3. Shape mixture into balls using your hands and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. You can also store the balls in the freezer for 2-3 months.

  4. Enjoy!

Recipe Notes:

  • You can use cocoa nibs or unsweetened chocolate chips in the place of regular chocolate chips to keep it even healthier! Or use Lily’s Sweets chocolate chips for a sugar free option!

  • You can omit the cocoa powder for a classic chocolate chip version!

This recipe is vegan, gluten free, dairy free and contains no added sugar! It’s the perfect healthy snack option. Who’s going to try?
